Punta Allen is a tiny lobster fishing village with about 500 residents. It is quiet and can be explored on foot. Most of the people living in town are Mayan descendants of residents from thousands of years ago. They make their living fishing, and increasingly, through tourism. There are a handful of mini 7-11s. If one doesn't have what you are looking for, ask and they will direct you to a store that does.. The panderia is a block from the clinic. They sell incredible bread, baked over coals in a domed oven. The bread makes a satisfying breakfast with jam or honey. There is one public phone in town and a few local entrepreneurs bring gas down from Tulum to sell. No cell service and no Internet café. If you prefer quiet, laid back barefoot vacations, with electricity only on from 6-12 at night, incredible flats fishing, unmatched natural beauty then Punta Allen is for you.
