Shoshone - Lower - January 8th, 2007
supplied by: North Fork Anglers FISHING: Excellent
The fishing remains outstanding. Hatches are sporadic, but BWO's and midges are still around. Parachute Adams, olive or gray sparkle duns, Griffith's gnats and even Royal Trudes are working well on top. Sow bugs, scuds, bead-headed droppers and streamers are taking trout below the surface. The tailwater section right below the dam tunnels that cannot be floated is also fishing well to dries and droppers.

We are in the Winter season for the Miracle Mile and insect life is pretty much dormant now except for scuds and midges. Shoshone - North Fork - November 26th, 2005
supplied by: North Fork Anglers FISHING: Poor
Done until spring.
Newton Lake - September 25th, 2005
supplied by: North Fork Anglers FISHING: Good
EAST NEWTON LAKE Water temps are are beginning to drop, thanks to shorter days and cool nights. Play the fish in fast and work them to make sure they swim off on their own. Callibaetis, caddis, beetles and hoppers are working on the surface. On windy days, try a size 8 rubber-legged hopper or Stimulator for some incredible takes. If they are sipping, give the Callibaetis spinner patterns a whirl. Backswimmers and snail patterns are also turning some fish. West Newton Lake has the same hatches if you want to bounce back and forth between these popular public waters. Now that we are entering our fall season, water temps should begin dropping and fish activity pick up.
Shoshone River - September 17th, 2005
supplied by: North Fork Anglers FISHING: Great
Daily Stage and Stream Flow [click here]
Fishing is awesome right now. It is hopper time, but the pmd's, bwo's, green drakes, and caddis are also providing some great sight casting opportunities. This is the time of year we all dream about -- big trout rising to hoppers or the hatches. No crowds and the best water conditions found in late summer. > Is summer over? Not yet. Despite the recent cold snap and snow at the higher elevations, the attitude of our rainbows, browns and cutthroat remains very good. Once our reminder that winter is ahead of us finishes this week, North Fork Anglers country should see a return to what can best be described as Indian Summer. Halcyon days and great hatches. for six more weeks. Awesome. <
NORTH FORK of the SHOSHONE Water conditions on the N. Fork and its tributaries is very good. Hoppers and droppers are the favorites, but the hatches mentioned at the top of the report give anglers plenty of choices to fish wets or dries throughout the day.
SOUTH FORK of the SHOSHONE - Water conditions very good. The S. Fork is fishing better in the evenings or on cloudy days. Try dropping Black N. Fork Specials, Hare's Ears, and Epoxy Golden Stones during the day when no hatches are apparent. Big Turck's, Chernobyl Ants, and Stimulators have brought the big browns to the surface. Flavs and pmd's have been sporatic, at best, but the good news is a fresh batch of mayflies (gray drakes) has just begun to emerge. LOWER SHOSHONE - We call the lower Shoshone tailwater a "sleeper" because most people drive right by without knowing there is some great dry fly and dry/dropper action within minutes of North Fork Anglers' fly shop in downtown Cody. Caddis, small hoppers, bwo's and midges have had the trout looking up in the canyon section and through town to Corbett Bridge access.
Beartooth Mountains Lakes - May 21st, 2005
supplied by: North Fork Anglers FISHING: Good LAKES and RESERVOIRS Fishermen preferring all types of angling tactics have discovered the treasures found in local ponds and reservoirs created for irrigation and agrarian uses. The Wyoming Game and Fish Department has stocked many of these water storage impoundments with a variety of trout. Due to the mineral content of the mountainous soils, the water in these man-made lakes are rich with aquatic insects and crustaceans which translates into good to trophy sized trout in most of these impoundments. For the fly fisherman, this also translates into a rod-bending great time. More Info on Lakes and Reservoirs
EAST NEWTON LAKE Woolly buggers, Bow Ties, Ice Cream Cones, Scuds, Backswimmers, Bead-heads and Midge pupae. The fish are beginning to come up on midge emergers as well. The Callibaetis action is picking up as the water warms. Expect to see speckled wing duns about noon and staying on the lake until mid-afternoons. We have some hot Callibaetis patterns that are really doing the trick . LUCE RESERVOIR- Same as Newton. SOUTH FORK ABATEMENT DIKE - Muddy water is entering the Dike pond from the South Fork runoff. This should be clearing by the middle of next week. Brown Leeches and Orange Blossoms are taking fish. Zuddlers stripped slowly along the dike are catching some BIG Browns.
