June and July.......Cowlitz River Summer Steelhead Fishing with J and L Guided Sportfishing!!!With the end of spring Chinook season comes summer steelhead fishing. We are already seeing some of these fish being caught on the Cowlitz and the run will be building well into the 4th of July weekend and beyond. Looking to catch your 3 fish limit of powerful, chrome bright summerruns? Then don't delay and call today to reserve your date. Stop wishing and lets go fishing.The Cowlitz has two distinct runs of aggressive biting fish, "A" runs which are now in the river and "B" runs which show up later in the summer. The "A" run that is currently here now are 8 to 12 lb. fish destined for the hatchery at Blue Creek. "B"run's are larger fish 12 to 18 pounds and return to the Barrier Dam hatchery. Due to the Cowlitz River hatcheries seeing an abundance of steelhead return in the last few weeks, the limit has been increased to 3 fish per person. Lets go get 'em!Currently we are catching an average of 3 to 5 fish a day and expect those number to increase into double digits by the 4th of July weekend. Several limits have been caught on various days freedrifting from Blue Creek to the I-5 Bridge. We are using Fetha Styx FSSH 961-2 ultra light spinning rods with Shimano Spinning reels loaded with 8 lb line. Freedrifting produces a fishing style that is very natural to the fish and drifts that are hundreds of yards long covering lots of holding water. Come experience the heart-pounding, fast and intense fish catching action on these ultra light rods! We are currently taking reservations for both morning and afternoon/evening trips on the Cowlitz. We will be fishing from 2 large roomy 25 foot Alumaweld Super Vee boats with 200 hp motors from Yamaha and Mercury. Prime dates are still available thru August 17th for Cowlitz River Steelhead.Also don't forget to ask about Columbia River Trophy Sturgeon fishing at Bonneville and Keeper Sturgeon in Astoria. Cowlitz in great shape at med flow and 4 ft of vis.
It's all Springers now.
Fish spread out from the mouth of the Toutle to the Barrier Dam.
Best techniques have been Green label Herring behind #2o diver. Also have had good success with m-2 flatfish in silver/char bill, silver/red bill, double trouble, mad clown and green Hornet.
Fish will start to bite eggs and shrimp a little better as the smolt leave.

Cowlitz in great shape with 5 ft of vis and med flow.
Winter Steelhead, Summer Steelhead and Spring Chinook all available right now.
Blue creek area has both Winter and summer Steelhead along with a few Springers while sidedrifting eggs.
Barrier Dam is mostly a spring chinook spot. Most springers have been caught while fishing divers and herring or plugs.
This is only going to get better with the weeks to come.

Cowlitz is in great shape with 3600 cbf of flow.
Silvers are spreading out all the way to the Barrier Dam Hatchery.
Siver fishing has been awesome and getting better every day. Sidedrifting from the boat has been the best from the mouth of the toutle down to the mouth.
Bank Anglers have doing the best throwing spinners or plugs.
While get better with the rescent rain.

Cowlitz is in great shape with 3600 cbf flow.
Kings are closed down to Catch and Release but the fishing has been excellent for kings while Hover fishing or Diver and Bait.
Silvers are spreading out all the way to the Barrier Dam Hatchery.
Siver fishing has been awesome and getting better every day. Sidedrifting from the boat has been the best from the mouth of the toutle down to the mouth.
Bank Anglers have doing the best throwing spinners or plugs.
While get better with the rescent rain.

Cowlitz is in great shape with 2540 cbf flow.
Kings and Silvers are in great numbers. Kings are being caught with all techniques including hovering, diver and bait and plugs. Fish are biting better below the I-5 bridge.
For Silvers just above the mouth of the toutle all the way to the mouth has been great throwing spinners or plugs.
This fishery is just going to get better in the next couple of weeks.

Cowlitz is in great shape with 2540 cbf flow.
Kings and summer steelhead are being caught side drifting bait. We are hooking 6-8 kings a day a couple summer runs and a sturgeon or two thrown in. Diver and Shrimp work well also for these summer steelhead. Fishing is only going to get better. Book now prime dates are almost gone.

Cowlitz has dropped into great shape with 3 ft of vis and and med flow.
Few late winter steelhead and early summer steelhead are around blue creek. Most fish are being caught side drifting bait. Summer steelhead will pick up in the next couple of weeks. Diver and Shrimp work wll for these early summer fish and will pick up springers as well.
Spring Chinook has been slow but is picking up each day. Fish spread out through system. Diver and Herring or Kwik fish have caught most fish so far. Over the next couple of weeks eggs will start to work but the smolys mat be a problem so try Prawns.

Few late winter steelhead ans early summer steelhead are around blue creek. Most fish are being caught side drifting bait. Summer steelhead will pick up in the next couple of weeks. Diver and Shrimp work wll for these early summer fish and will pick up springers as well.
