It's mid-summer and the fishing is a morning/evening deal on the Jefferson.
Come Prepared: sz. 12-18 Adams Parachute, sz. Sparkle Spiders, our new, sz. 12 & 14, Never Sink Trudes - a killer pattern, sz. 12-16 Royal and Grey Wulff patterns, sz. 10 Black Magic, sz. 12-16 PT Cruzers, sz. 12-16 Prince Nymphs, sz. 2-6 Tim's Buggbully (Yellow, White, Orange, Grey, Olive), Yellow Yummy's, sz. 2-6, Beldar Rubber Legs, sz. 4 (Black, Brown, Olive, Yellow) Yuk Bugs, sz. 4,6 (Black, Olive, Pepperoni) And bring some big, nasty, crawfish patterns.

Same as the Big Hole, pretty icy and miserable, don't know of anyone who fishes this hard during this time of year. If you do, let me know and I'll kindly change the report!

FISHING: Good
We have had no reports from the Jefferson which is very typical. The fall is the time of year to fish the Jefferson since the flows are back up and the main food source is minnows, which brown trout love. You can also run into some decent hatches of baetis in the fall and if you are looking to try something new the Jefferson is a decent fishery with magnificent fall colors.

The Voluntary fishing closure has been lifted on the Jefferson and we are about to hit the best period to fish the Jefferson. The lower end of the river has seen some hatches of Baetis, psuedo cleons and efrons which have brought some fish to the surface. The Jefferson is a very hit or miss fishery and most of the productive days I have had on the river have been on the upper end near Hell's Canyon and Twin Bridges. There is some great water on this stretch and if you are looking for an out of the way river this is a great option. Streamers are generally the best approach, unless you find rising fish. We will be exploring the Jefferson some this fall and I will update this report as often as I can get out and give it a try.

Fishing Report: The Montana Fish Wildlife and Parks have ask anglers to voluntarily limit their fishing on the Jefferson. As of July 25th the river had registered three straight days of water temps above 73 degrees. They are asking anglers to not fish between noon until midnight until the water temperatures decrease and flows increase. Check the Fish Wildlife and Parks website for further information.

FISHING: Fair
Fishing Report: The Jefferson is off color and the fishing has been fair to midland on the very upper reaches. Streamers and nymphs are your best bets. The Jefferson is not one of the fabled streams in Montana but if you are looking for a scenic float and solitude you can have a ball on the Jefferson.
