Sacramento River - Lower - May 14th, 2005
supplied by: Al Brown's Guide Service
FISHING: Good
Redding--Trout fishing was very good, and trout to 4 pounds were taking drifted crickets and Glo-Bugs. Small, dragged Kwikfish, and nymphs fished under indicators were also scoring native rainbows.
Sacramento--Striped bass fishing continued to be very good, especially at Miller Park and the mouth of the Feather River at Verona. The occasional sturgeon, including one estimated at 200 pounds, which was landed--and released--after a 1 1/2-hour fight were also surprising striper fishermen off Sandy Cove up to the Business 80 bridge.

Sacramento River - Lower - May 1st, 2005

FISHING: Good
Redding--The release at Keswick Dam was increased to 5,000 cfs last week, and, while the rise in flows temporarily put a damper on trout fishing, it quickly picked back up, and even improved. Anglers were catching a dozen or more trout a day weighing from 1 1/2 to 4 pounds on crickets and a bit of roe from Redding to Balls Ferry. Fly fishing also continued to be good, although nymphs significantly outscored dry flies. Dragging K-4 or K-5 Kwikfish was better further downstream toward Red Bluff.

Sacramento River - Lower - April 29th, 2005
supplied by: Tim's Guide Service
FISHING: Excellent
Today we SMOKED'EM catching 20+ fish over 10LBs. We sent everyone aboard home with enough striper to keep them fat and happy. This was the best day we have had during this striper season and it looks like just the beginning...let's hope so! The one downside for the day was my camera decided to die so there are no pictures. Hopefully in the next week I can get the camera fixed or get my deckhand to bring his along. Thanks Tim King

Sacramento River - Lower - April 7th, 2005
supplied by: Al Brown's Guide Service
FISHING: Great
Fly fishing continued to be excellent for native rainbow trout, although fishing was best in the Redding area, because the river was muddy below tributaries. Fly fishing was particularly good, and fish were even taking dries, especially in the middle of the day when water temperatures warmed just a bit, and heavy caddis hatches filled the air. Non-fly fishermen were backtrolling small gold or silver Hot Shots and drifting crickets.

FISHING: Good
Stripers and sturgeon are starting to move up the Sacramento river. The number of fish caught this week has picked up in the Colusa area. It is a mix of sturgeon and stripers mostly schooly sized in the 6 to 10 pound range . The larger fish will start to show as the water temperature starts to warm up. Thanks Tim King

FISHING: Fair
The fishing For stripers and sturgeon should start to pick up with the Sacramento dropping back down. Kittles in Colusa is reporting a few being caught drifting live bait or trolling plugs. The lower Trinity is still a little high for steelhead but should be perfect by Sunday if no more rain comes in. Thanks Tim King

Sacramento River - Lower - November 6th, 2003
supplied by: Leland Flyfishing Outfitters
FISHING: Great
Northern California guide Craig Nielsen reports summer-like weather recently changed to winter conditions within a few days. He says the best bite continues on eggs and small nymphs behind staging salmon. Until the major seasonal storms hit and flows come up, the Lower Sac will be as good as it gets for trophy trout and steelhead. Craig says to remember the Lower Sac remains open and fishes well after most other rivers close on Nov. 15th.
Wet Flies: Unreal Eggs, Fox Fertilizers, Thunder Egg, Glo Bugs #16 BH Flashback PT, BH Micro-mayfly, Poo-Pah, Prince or Birdsnest
Steelhead Flies: #8-10 Stonefly nymphs
