Sol Duc River - March 9th, 2006
supplied by: Angler's Guide Service
RECORDED:
35 °
FISHING: Excellent
Sol-Duc is running at 10 boards and 2.5 feet visibilty. The fish are spread out from the top to bottom. The warm weather has really turned the fish on. There fresh fish all the way through the system. There are more Spring Chinook showing up each day
Gear Tactics:
The three primary gear tactics consist of Plug Pulling, Side Drifting and Float fishing. If you are going to pull plugs then stick with small plugs in Silver, Green, blue, Black, Purple or Dull Orange. If side drifting is your game then go light on the lead and small baits. We fish a size single 4 or 2 hook with a small cluster of eggs or for a change up try some prawn meet soaked in egg juice. For floats fish size 1/8th ounce jigs in Pink, Pink/white,Pink/black, Purple/pink and the Anglers Guide Service custom jig. You can also fish bait, like eggs, sand shrimp or squid under the float.
For Springers use plugs like K-13or 15's in Blue Scale, Silver Chartruese bill, Green Pirate, Cerise or Mad Clown. You might also backtroll diver in bait with sandshrimp, eggs or a combo of sandshrimp and eggs.
Fly Tactics:
Swing flies in Black, Purple, orange or Blood Red. I like the Steel Wooly, General Practioner, Hare Ball leech and Articulated Leeches. If you are a Nymph fisherman the try a small lead eyed fly in pink or purple with a glo bug or troutbead dropper .
With this fresh squirt of water it should really heat up as we move into the peak of the Native run..

Sol Duc River - February 11th, 2006
supplied by: Angler's Guide Service
RECORDED:
52 °
FISHING: Excellent
The Sol-Duc is dropping hard and is in fishable shape.. The current conditions are 10 boards with about 5' visability, and will be improving each day with cooler weather.
There are alot of nice native fish in after the recent rains. Fish are spread out from top to bottom. Plenty of fishing the high teens. Check out our photo gallery for the fish of the day
It's that time of the year. The first big push of wild fish have shown up along with a few straggling Hatchery fish. You will see a few of our Snider Creek fish in the next several weeks and an increase in the number of wild fish. The river is dropping and clearing every day into the emrald green Sol-duc that we all have come to love.
The fish are marching there way up the river, so they can be caught through the whole system. It is Selective gear rules above the Salmon Hatchery, so if you are interested in using bait or keeping a fish you must fish below the hatchery. Down in this section it is fished by pulling plugs, drift fishing, side-drifting or floatfishing. With the water at this heighth we have been sidedrifting this stretch and producing 8 to 12 fish a day.
The upper river from Riverside to the Hatchery is very productive this time a year with the fish headed to this stretch to spawn. DO NOT FLOAT THIS IF YOU HAVE NOT BEEN DOWN IT BEFORE.THERE IS A TREE ACROSS THE RIVER IN A RAPID JUST BELOW THE SNIDER BRIDGE, PLEASE BE VERY CAREFULL. The best techniques in this stretch is to float fish either Beau-mac or Aero Jigs or to Pull Plugs in some of the longer runs or deep pools.
This is a great stretch to fly fish with plenty of fish stacking up in preperation to spawn. We like to swing big flies in Black ,Orange, Pink, Red or Purple in marabous, Spey's, practionier's or Hairball Leeches. As the water drops we will fish alot of the smaller pockets with a glo bug or a Bead from www.troutbeads.com.
Be here when this one comes back in. There are reports of the Indians catching 3 fish over 30pounds in the nets this last week. There has also been several fish in the high twentys caught by anglers this past week. When this drops into shape the big ones will be here for the catching.
