Sol-Duc (sole~duck) River-- I love this phrase "one day your a hero and the next your a zero", it holds so true if your a guide. We worked our butt's off yesterday to get  just 5 Salmon to the net, for the most part though they were nice and bright with the exception of one big wild King that we released. The water was still a bit murky from the recent rain but the volume was only around 3-4 bricks.

I'm getting a little unnerved about how low our Quillayute system rivers are this early in the season, The Calawah river is completely un-navigable and the Sol-Duc R. is as low as I've ever seen it in June. There are a few fresh Summer Steelhead and Salmon moving up through all of our major rivers but it has been sporadic.

FLY FISHING REPORT:  We've had some real decent Cutthroat brought to hand recently. The vast majority are in the 9 -11 inch bracket but we have had more than a few in the 14 to 16 inch range also. Steelhead have been few and far between during the past two weeks....which is fairly typical for this portion of the season.

Saltwater: (Fly Fishing) Good!! if you live in the Seattle Metro area you must sample this unique and very productive fly fishery. The species available right now are Sea-Run Cutthroat and resident Silver Salmon.  Please contact Cap't Wolf @ 253-863-0711 or e-mail him @ capttwolf@comcast.net  I guarantee you'll have an awesome trip.

River Reports:

Sol-Duc (sole~duck) River-- Very sporadic action in here right now, a classic low water situation and a fishing guides nightmare "one day your a hero and the next your a zero". The Salmon and Steelhead that we have been taking are however chrome bright and full of fight.
NOTE: Wild Steelhead catch & release reg's are in effect

Bogachiel River -- Slow, not many fresh Summer Steelhead moving up in the past several days.
NOTE:
Wild Steelhead selective gear regulations as well as catch & Release reg's are in effect above the US HWY 101 bridge.

Calawah River-- Very, very low water conditions and really not more than a handful of Steelhead in here right now.
NOTE: Wild Steelhead selective gear regulations as well as catch & Release reg's are in effect.

HOH RIVER -- Yet again it has become a game of faith and patience in here, you can spend a lot of time on this water between bites right now.  Only open for retention of King Salmon from Willoughby crk down stream to the mouth

Queets River-- No recent reports.

Quillayute River
-- Same, same, same It has been very sporadic in here lately.

All of our rivers are in stellar condition, including the Hoh and Queets rivers. Overall thefishing has been good with decent numbers of Spring Kings in the Sol-Duc and Hoh rivers and good showing of Summer-run Steelhead in the lower Calawah and middle section of the Bogachiel rivers. The Cutthroat fishing has been a bit sporadic but thats par for the course this time of the season.

FLY FISHING REPORT:  Seems to be a good year so far re the the number of Steelhead that have shown up in the traditional pools in the lower Calawah and middle Bogie. Classic deep swung leech patterns have been most consistent with the occasional fish coming to a waking surface fly.

Sol-Duc (sole~duck) River-- Decent. Kings and a few, very few yet fresh Summer Steelhead.

Sol-Duc (sole~duck) River--  Today's heavy freshet really brought this river up, should fish very well this weekend. Decent numbers of Spring King Salmon are in the river right now and with the water level being optimal now there should be several excellent report during the next few days.. We did get in a banner day (5-17-05) landing 3 dandy kings out of the 6 we had on. A shrimp cocktail under a slip bobber was the hot ticket for this day. We also did manage to pin 3 on plugs,  a basic green and red, M2 flatfish, with a sardine wrap was the wonder plug de'jur..

The Steelhead season is over, technically the rivers close to Steelhead fishing on May 1st. The Sol-Duc River will remain open for Spring King Salmon fishing throughout May. June 1st is again the opening date on all of our regional rivers for Steelhead and Cutthroat Trout.

FLY FISHING REPORT:  Our 2005 winter Steelhead season was outstanding overall, we had more than our fair share of fine weather and aggressive fish. The upcoming Late Spring/Early Summer season is shaping up well, we have already landed 2 very bright and very acrobatic and very early Summer-run Steelhead in the lower Calawah R. and the trout numbers/activity is excellent for this time of the year.
I'm really looking forward to June 1st and the Summer season.

Sol-Duc (sole~duck) River--  The show is over re the late Winter/Early Spring Steelhead run (the season officially ends on May 1st). Spring King Salmon are moving up in decent numbers and it looks to be a very good run this year. We will be chasing this big delicious Salmon in earnest when we get back from our Bone fishing trip. If you want to go Salmon fishing right away please call Pat @ 360-374-5313.

NOTE: Wild Steelhead selective gear regulations as well as catch & Release reg's are in effect above Sappho fish hatchery. It has/is being heavily patrolled up here and tickets for using bait and/or killing a wild Steelhead have been substantial.

The BIG Picture:
Status unchanged.... Fresh Steelhead are starting to become a bit scarce, which is typical for this time of the season. There are a lot of out-migrating post spawn fish around and a few Spring King Salmon are starting to show up in the Sol-Duc.

FLY FISHING REPORT:  Our regional rivers have dropped into excellent shape and conditions very good for picking fish on the swing. Just be very, very....very careful where you wade as there are numerous  "Redds" in the rivers right now.

Sol-Duc (sole~duck) River--  The majority of the Steelhead in here now are colored up or post spawn. There are a few Spring Kings now scattered throughout the river and this run should continue to build on into mid May.

NOTE: Wild Steelhead selective gear regulations as well as catch & Release reg's are in effect above Sappho fish hatchery. It has/is being heavily patrolled up here and tickets for using bait and/or killing a wild Steelhead have been substantial.

Bogachiel River -- A bit slow to be honest and there are loads of little guys (Smolt) in here right now.
NOTE:
Wild Steelhead selective gear regulations as well as catch & Release reg's are in effect above the US HWY 101 bridge.

Calawah River-- Same, lots of dark fish "spwaners" moving out of here right now, pretty much over for this years winter run.
NOTE: Wild Steelhead selective gear regulations as well as catch & Release reg's are in effect.

HOH RIVER -- Has been fishing very well when it's in shape (2-4 ft of visibility and below 2100 CFS).

Queets River-- no report

Quillayute River
-- I just had a piece of fresh Spring King Salmon last night for dinner, it was given to me by my good friend and fellow guide John Monk. John landed 2 nice Kings in here yesterday.

Lower Quinault River--  To fish this river you will need a Quinault Nation licensed fishing guide.

Please Contact: www.lettypotter.com  give them a call and I'm sure you'll have a fine time

Sooes ("soo-yes") River, Neah Bay-- No recent report. You will need a tribal permit to fish this little river, available in Neah Bay at Washburns General store 360-645-2211.
