Sol Duc River - April 7th, 2005
supplied by: Fishing Northwest
FISHING: Fair
Washington River Levels
The BIG Picture: Just had another big dash of the wet stuff, not enough to do any real damage but enough to put the rivers in a bit of a flux for a day or so.
FLY FISHING REPORT: Looks like the upper portion of the Calawah and Sol-Duc rivers should still be fishable tomorrow and Thursday. There are a lot of Redds up here right now so be very very careful where you wade. With backcasting room in short supply on these sections of the river it's a real benefit to be able to efficiently roll cast a heavy line or be proficient with a two hander.
River Reports:( for conventional gear fishing)
Sol-Duc (sole~duck) River-- It's up significantly from today's rain, a few Springers have shown up and the Steelhead fishing continues fair to middl'n with a mix of approx 50 - 50 up river to down river fish.
NOTE: Wild Steelhead selective gear regulations as well as catch & Release reg's are in effect above Sappho fish hatchery. It has/is being heavily patrolled up here and tickets for using bait and/or killing a wild Steelhead have been substantial.
Bogachiel River -- High and off color again today. NOTE: Wild Steelhead selective gear regulations as well as catch & Release reg's are in effect above the US HWY 101 bridge.
Calawah River-- Plenty of water roll'n through here right now but the color is still very good, approx 4-6 ft of visibility. NOTE: Wild Steelhead selective gear regulations as well as catch & Release reg's are in effect.
HOH RIVER -- High and off color but should fish fine as soon as it gets back in shape. Queets River-- Has been decent when it's in shape. A recent slide has the road blocked from Methany creek on upstream.
Quillayute River -- The best days to focus on this river are Thursday through Sunday (when the nets are out)
Sooes ("soo-yes") River, Neah Bay-- No recent report. Typically once the hatchery run is done in here there are still a few big Wild Steelhead available here and in the Waa"tch River. You will need a tribal permit to fish this little river, available in Neah Bay at Washburns General store 360-645-2211.

Sol Duc River - April 1st, 2005
supplied by: Fishing Northwest
FISHING: Fair
Washington River Levels
The BIG Picture: We just had yet another major deluge but the rivers should begin to fall into very fishable shape by Sunday or Monday at the latest. The number of big fish being caught recently has tapered off but there seems to have been a higher than average number of "big" Steelhead in the Olympic Peninsula rivers this yearduring January and February.
FLY FISHING REPORT: Rivers are high and off color again but I anticipate some excellent days ahead. River temps warmed early this year and we have been picking up a very high percentage of our Steelhead on the "swing". Angler dexterity and mobility are key. However, nymphing "Cotton Candies", Steelie Stones and Glo-Bugs remains hands down the most effective method of putting Steelhead on the end of the leader right now.
Sol-Duc (sole~duck) River-- Same, a bit high and off color today but we had some excellent days in here last week. Still a few monsters around, Pat put Keith Furakowa onto a 22.4lb beastie yesterday (they also landed 5 other Steelheal
selective gear regulations as well as catch & Release reg's are in effect above Sappho fish hatchery. It has/is being heavily patrolled up here and tickets for using bait and/or killing a wild Steelhead have been substantial.
Bogachiel River -- Same, High and un-fishable for a few days. NOTE: Wild Steelhead selective gear regulations as well as catch & Release reg's are in effect above the US HWY 101 bridge.
Calawah River-- Again way up and off color. (See web-cam pictures) NOTE: Wild Steelhead selective gear regulations as well as catch & Release reg's are in effect.
HOH RIVER --Same, it will probably be at least 3-4 days before it's even close to fishable.
Quillayute River -- Yuck
Lower Quinault River-- Not in good shape right now. To fish this river you will need a Quinault Nation licensed fishing guide. Please Contact: www.lettypotter.com give them a call and I'm sure you'll have a fine time
Sooes ("soo-yes") River, Neah Bay-- No recent report. Typically once the hatchery run is done in here there are still a few big Wild Steelhead available here and in the Waa"tch River. You will need a tribal permit to fish this little river, available in Neah Bay at Washburns General store 360-645-2211.

Sol Duc River - March 18th, 2005
supplied by: Fishing Northwest
FISHING: Fair
Washington River Levels
The BIG Picture: Gorgeous bright clear and balmy weather, low and clear water conditions across the board with enough fresh Steelhead around to keep the camera busy.
FLY FISHING REPORT: Same, The 90% rule holds true..... 10% of the fishermen / women catch 90% of the fish! For us it's been excellent, we've been able to connect with many nice fish in recent days. . Enjoyed a wonderful day recently on the Hoh River with my lovely wife Kimberly and good friend Chris Senyohl. We let things thaw out a bit this morning and didn't put on the river until about 10:00am. Kim of course pinned the biggest and brightest fish of the day but Chris and I salvaged our pride by picking up numerous smaller "more interesting" fish.
Sol-Duc (sole~duck) River-- Same, back to very low and clear in here (2 bricks at Maxfield rd.) There are fish scattered completely through out this river and there are many, many Redds in here right now and many more to be made so please be extremely careful where you wade.
NOTE: Wild Steelhead selective gear regulations as well as catch & Release reg's are in effect above Sappho fish hatchery. It has/is being heavily patrolled up here and tickets for using bait and/or killing a wild Steelhead have been substantial.

Sol Duc River - February 24th, 2005
supplied by: Fishing Northwest
FISHING: Fair
Washington River Levels
Same scenario as last week, the upper Sol-Duc and the Calawah rivers are currently "to low" for a comfortable float in a hard boat while the rest of the area rivers are in "floatable" shape. We desperately need a good shot of rain.....
FLY FISHING REPORT: Overall it's been a real decent Winter Steelhead season, the rivers have been "in" more than they've been "out" and we've been "exercising" quite a few fish on the long rods.
Sol-Duc (sole~duck) River-- Very low and clear and cold right now. You really have to earn your Steelhead in this river.
NOTE: Wild Steelhead selective gear regulations as well as catch & Release reg's are in effect above Sappho fish hatchery. It has/is being heavily patrolled up here and tickets for using bait and/or killing a wild Steelhead have been substantial.
